Visit a Roman Road | The Courtyard Roman France – The Courtyard

Roman France

General Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa was entrusted by Octavian to subdue and reorganise the Gauls. Think Asterix…!

Whilst General Agrippa achieved many things during his lifetime he is best remembered for his construction projects throughout the Roman Empire.

One of  Agrippa’s greatest roads runs from Lyon in the far east of France all the way to Sainte near the Atlantic coast. A lovely day out would perhaps follow that route begining with a trip to the nearby Roman Amphitheatre just a 15 minute bicycle ride away from The Courtyard. You can pick up the ancient Via Agrippa and follow it as it takes you along the chemins blancs, or white lanes, between the vines of the area.

We have a number of nice bikes you are welcome to use for free.
